Hayley and Trysten

It’s no secret I loooooved this wedding - if you follow me on Instagram (@amypatonphoto!), you probably know I can’t shut up about it.

These two were just so lovely and kind, and it’s always nice to find fellow emo kids (with excellent music taste) out in the wild. Makes work SO much more fun when you vibe with your clients!

Plus, I got to make Hayley’s bouquet and the buttonholes for the gentlemen, which just adds an extra layer of specialness for me - photographing a wedding (or event) and watching my floral work serve its purpose gives me LIFE.

My final florist duty before putting on the photographer hat, helping Trysten navigate the buttonhole situation.

The weather was a bit touch and go on this day, and the crazy wind meant these poor bud vases were more often sideways than upright. But if that’s the worst thing that happens, I’d call that a win on your wedding day!

This image of Hayley and her dad coming to the aisle and catching a glimpse of Trysten for the first time, is genuinely one of my favourite images ever. Soooo special!

Now seems like a good time to shout out my lovely secondary photographer Sarah (@sareclarkephoto) for capturing all the alternate angles (like when I’m watching the bride come down the aisle, Sarah caught Trysten’s reaction. Plus she’s just a legend!

Always worth having your photographer hire a ‘second shooter’, even if its just for a few hours for ceremony and speeches!

Bridal party full of legends!

Seriously. Just get a guy that looks at you like Trysten looks at Hayley and surely you’re set..

Then the party started! Perfect day for a marquee in the backyard, some catering and platters and a chilled evening of celebrations!

(this snap of old mate on the right here is one of my absolute favourites from the day, hehehe)

Throughout the evening, the welcome sign from the front of the wedding venue because the guestbook and was slowly signed by all the guests. What a cool idea!

And the photo wall below of special people not in attendance, so important.

Then we got into first dances and speeches, so fun!

AND if anyone is actually reading this, and knows how to make gifs, GET IN TOUCH because these two shots of Hayley and her dad starting their first dance (before the serious dance kicked in, haha) are PERFECT in gif form and I need it to happen. Come on people, work your magic.

The Lebanese food truck was an ELITE idea - those chippies kept me going for bloody hours.

These two. So special. I think I’ve said everything I can to them, and about them, about how good this day was.

Standing on the hill, cameras on my shoulders, bucket of chippies in hand, listening to If It Means A Lot To You by one of the greatest bands of all time, is an iconic ‘work’ (can we even call it that??) moment that will stay with me for a long time.

The kindness and gratitude that spill out of these two everytime I speak to one of them (or when I bump into them at Anberlin gigs a couple months later!) is just everything, and I’m so grateful for clients (and now mates) like this!

I finished my time with these two, just as the sun disappeared, the lights came on and the party was really kicking off, by being serenaded with Mr Brightside (which was not in my run sheet, but I appreciated it anyway hahaha).

Icons. Mates. Congrats, Mr and Mrs Ewing.
