T’was the season

So, late last year on a whim, I decided to do some Christmas family sessions!

I do a lot of events, and a common request at these events is to get a ‘whole family’ photo, or photos with the more extended family that you don’t see as much, and definitely don’t have photos with as often.

Traditionally a lot of businesses wrap up prior to Christmas for the year but this year I decided to work on all the surrounding days (these shoots were done on the 23rd, 24th and 26th of Dec) and give a longer timeframe for final edits to allow me a break still.

To be honest, it was some of my favourite shoots and best work of the year! The vibes were high, the sessions were short and sweet so everyone could get back to their meal, and all the little moments within the bigger families were so special.

I’ve curated a few of my favourites from each shoot for you all to enjoy, thank you for being here.

I’m lucky that the majority of the families I worked with lived within a 10 minute drive from me, including these legends!

So many beautiful combos, and the most STUNNING tree for a backdrop for some of the angles!

But the kids definitely stole the show for this shoot - tooooo cute!

And there’s nothing like the love between grandpa and his littlest granddaughter.

Too perfect! Easy as pie (or cake?). Thanks legends!

This next shoot was a bit different from the other three featured here.. up in North Warrandyte on Christmas Eve, with a very special costume theme.. (and a special welcoming attraction!)

Sally (long time follower, first time client!) got in touch to recruit me to shoot their ANNUAL family group shot at their huge family do.

HOW GOOD!! These guys do a different theme for Christmas Eve every year - this time they went all out with their Barbie theme and I’m OBSESSED.

Once we covered the group photo first (the goat was distracting me a bit haha), we rolled through all the different smaller groups, and oh my goodness did these guys bring it!

Absolutely iconic, such good vibes. Same time this Christmas Eve?

Next we have Stephen and his beautiful family (and a record number of babies in one photo now!), during a chilled out afternoon at their Kew home.

The most iconic part was when the siblings requested we recreate their studio photoshoot photos from when they were young teens, that are still hanging on the walls of their parents place!

How’s the posing! And this one in black and white, outstanding

. So good.

With so many babies about, it was always going to be a bit tricky. Some shots worked out beautifully..

… and some, not so much, haha!

They say to never work with animals..

.. or children! But somehow we managed all of the above, all within half an hour. (If anyone has any tips on these overhead shots, and to be honest I’m not obsessed with how I shot this, albeit with limited time and space. Any lens/focal length/lighting suggestions?)

Nonetheless, we had a beautiful shoot and soooo much fun! Thanks team!

Lastly, we have lovely Katrina, her family, siblings and her parents who were down from Sydney for Christmas! This is exactly why I do these shoots, so people who don’t often get together have a chance to grab some quick but lovely photos while the whole fam is in one place!

Each smaller fam within the bigger unit had their own cute moment in the lounge, and then we took it outside to enjoy the sunshine!

Extra points to this lot, arms photo was needed! (We only got one in before everyone lost it laughing, but one’s enough!)

Especially when there’s kids who seem to grow and change every 20 minutes, or older grandparents who don’t live as close by, taking opportunities like this to invest in some quality photos are soooo important!

So special. Thanks to everyone for being good sports! (especially when I was distracting you all from the Boxing Day test starting that morning!)

And that’s that! I did have one other shoot (the first cab off the rank actually), but they requested their images not be made public - which is absolutely okay, you are always welcome to request that! But they were a delight, their backyard was full of gorgeous hydrangea (my florist side was chuffed) and we did lots of cute smaller group portraits, and individual shots of all the kids and teens too, which are actually some of my favourite images in a loooong time! So I hope they enjoy them. <3

Thank you to EVERYONE who booked in - I’ll definitely be offering this again in December this year, so feel free to keep me in mind!
